A Joner usually means really bad luck, like being struck by a comet.
Sometimes a Joner is a sign that really bad luck is on it's way.
Sometimes a person is the Joner. Whenever that person comes around, bad luck befalls you.
Sometimes the Joner brings bad luck on himself. Sad for them, but good for you.
Be on your toes. Don't take things as just coincidences. Joners can be anywhere.

Chapter 43 - Peace of Mind
The Black Irish disposition is a true curse.
I for one, suffer daily due to my bleak outlook on the future. 99% of my life has been trouble free. But, I spend most of every day waiting for and expecting something to go wrong. Then if it doesn't, I find something else to start worrying about. A vicious cycle.
Afraid it will lead me to an early grave. Then I'll have a little peace of mind. But, then again, maybe not. Let me worry on that for a while.

Chapter 42 - Animal Training
My Grandad once said that he couldn't guarantee that every animal he owned would do exactly what he wanted it to do. But he did guarantee that his animals wouldn't do anything he didn't want them to do.
I guess that is it in a nutshell.
Train your dogs and horses and whatever to be obedient, so that you can give them simple commands and they do not hesitate to obey you. You and your pets will both be a lot happier.
If, at times, they slack up a little, just re-apply the hickory to their skull and they will gladly remember what they were supposed to do.
I have had enough success at training animals that sometimes I think maybe I missed my calling in life. I'll bet that I could have had a fine career as a large animal trainer. Like the guys at the circus that make elephants stand on one foot and whistle Dixie through their trunk.
